Aperture Discontinued

Sadly Apple has discontinued both Aperture their professional image editing program as well as the prosumer version iPhoto. This is grave news especially for professional users who are using Aperture as their primary image editor. Users will be expected to migrate their images to the new Photos app in the upcoming Yosemite operating system but how effective this will be remains to be seen. Likely Photos will be an amalgamation of Aperture and iPhoto with better mobile integration and cloud storage options. Alternately the bandits at Adobe are offering upgrade paths for Aperture users. This scenario is exactly why I have been hesitant to lock myself into a single editing and file storage software. I prefer to process images using a variety of raw processing software and manually backing images up to external hard drives with my own file system. Thom Hogan has an interesting article on his site titled "Another One Bites The Dust"  you may want to peruse. See link below:

New Nikon D SLR

Nikon has updated the venerable D800 camera to the D810. In short the best pro D SLR on the market has been updated with some key features. Most important will be some modifications to the Sony sensor and totally dropping the OLPF filter this time. It will be interesting to see what practical improvements are seen in image quality. Also the mirror assembly has been tweaked to reduce mirror slap which should lead to improved sharpness. Video functionality has been improved as well as metering functions and speed boost both in the Expeed4 processing engine and increased frame rates!

Finally

I was finally lucky enough to catch a few elusive aircraft that I wanted to have in my photo library including the 747-400 series and the Westjet 737 painted in the Walt Disney Mickey Mouse livery.

Just started processing images from my last shoot with Norm Cheung's Photo Group at Chris's farm on Weston Rd. What a great spot for shooting and fun as always but a lot of work as well. Special thanks to both Norm and Stan for setting this shoot up.

New website design

I have just uploaded my new design template in order to create a more cohesive site. I believe this format works much better though a lot more changes to come.

New shot of our ragdoll Bella

I used Bella as a model to test a new lighting technique in order to  create a dark background during the day and I was pleased with the result.
