Aperture Discontinued

Sadly Apple has discontinued both Aperture their professional image editing program as well as the prosumer version iPhoto. This is grave news especially for professional users who are using Aperture as their primary image editor. Users will be expected to migrate their images to the new Photos app in the upcoming Yosemite operating system but how effective this will be remains to be seen. Likely Photos will be an amalgamation of Aperture and iPhoto with better mobile integration and cloud storage options. Alternately the bandits at Adobe are offering upgrade paths for Aperture users. This scenario is exactly why I have been hesitant to lock myself into a single editing and file storage software. I prefer to process images using a variety of raw processing software and manually backing images up to external hard drives with my own file system.
